How this started

Brett Wangsgard spent a dozen years running remodel and hauling crews across the Salt Lake Valley before buying a single truck and one container in 2014. The reason was straightforward: he had spent most of a decade waiting on containers that turned up late, turned up in the wrong size, or turned up with a price that changed once the load crossed a scale - and watching haulers who did not know the east bench get stuck on grades they should never have attempted.

Twelve years on we run a fleet across Cottonwood Heights, Salt Lake County and the wider valley, and the operating principle has not moved. Tell people the truth about what they need, set the container down level without damaging anything, and charge the number that was quoted.

What we actually do differently

We know how to place on the bench. Cottonwood Heights, the Olympus Cove area, the Sandy hills and the canyon-mouth lots are built on grade. Setting a loaded container on a steep driveway so it sits level, does not shift and does not mark the concrete is a genuine skill, and it is the one that most separates us from a hauler who works the flat valley floor. We plank, chock and take the time to do it right.

We recommend smaller containers. This one surprises people. A great deal of the older housing across the east bench, Holladay and Millcreek was built with plaster over lath and heavy dimensional framing. That material is dense. A 20 yard filled with it reaches its tonnage allowance at roughly two-thirds of its visible height, and the customer pays overage on space they were never able to use. Recommending the 15 yard instead costs us revenue and saves the customer money. We do it anyway.

We tarp every load. Utah's secured-load law requires a covered load, and since January 2026 the Salt Lake Valley Landfill penalizes an uncovered one with a fee equal to the disposal price. We cover every haul, which on the windy bench-descent roads is plain sense on top of being the law.

One number. The flat rate covers delivery, seven days, collection, disposal, a stated tonnage allowance and tarping, with the overage rate quoted in the same breath. No fuel surcharge, no environmental fee appearing on an invoice for the first time.

Why local knowledge matters here

The Salt Lake Valley has a split housing stock, and it changes the advice completely. The older east-bench homes - Cottonwood Heights, Holladay, Millcreek, the Sugar House side - give up dense plaster and heavy framing that wants a smaller container. The newer subdivisions in Sandy, Draper and the valley floor give up bulky, light debris that wants a larger one. Same valley, same week, opposite recommendations.

Then there is the terrain and the county rules. Bench and hillside placement takes real skill; the landfill charges by material, rewarding clean separated loads; and the secured-load law now has teeth. A company quoting an identical number for a flat West Jordan lot and a steep Olympus Cove driveway is not really paying attention. We quote each job on what it actually is, and we will explain the difference if you want to hear it.

• Kimber Stott — Operations Manager. Runs the schedule, the swaps and the contractor accounts, and knows which bench streets a loaded truck can and cannot manage. If you need a same-day swap, she is the one who makes it happen.
• Tyson Averett — Lead Driver. Has been setting containers level on steep east-bench and canyon-mouth driveways for years. If he says a 30 will not fit your lot, it will not fit.
• Marissa Peay — Customer Care Lead. First voice on the phone most mornings, and the person who will walk you through what can and cannot go in the container.
