Why we publish a page for every area

Because the answer genuinely changes from one part of the valley to the next, and for reasons that have more to do with terrain and housing than distance.

The most consequential is the bench. Cottonwood Heights, Holladay, Millcreek, the Olympus Cove area and the Sandy hills are built on grade at the mouth of the canyons, and placing a container level on a steep driveway is a real skill. The valley-floor cities - Midvale, Murray, West Jordan, West Valley City - are flatter and simpler to place, which changes how a job goes.

The second is the housing. The older bench neighborhoods give up dense demolition debris that wants a smaller container; the newer subdivisions in Sandy, Draper and the valley floor give up bulky, light material that wants a larger one. Which area you are in changes the sizing advice.

The rest is common to the whole valley: the county landfill's material-based rates that reward clean separated loads, and Utah's secured-load law that means every load leaves tarped. Each area page below covers the access, the grade and what to expect on the ground.
