Concrete and heavy debris go in their own container
Concrete, brick, block and masonry are dense enough that a 10 yard filled level is already at the legal road weight for the truck carrying it. They also need to be kept clean and separate to route at the correct rate rather than as mixed waste.
Never mix concrete into a general demolition container. One reinforced slab in with the framing debris turns the whole load into something far more expensive to handle.
For a demolition phase producing both, we run a separate 10 yard for the masonry alongside the larger container for everything else. More deliveries, and the only way it works out economically.
Separating pays at the county gate
The Salt Lake Valley Landfill charges by material. Clean, dry soil or sod is $12 per ton; concrete and asphalt have their own per-ton rate; but a mixed or wet load is charged at $36 per ton. On a site producing structure, dirt and fill together, that difference is real money.
Metal has genuine scrap value and is worth separating on any site producing it in quantity. Clean untreated timber and clean green waste can also be handled separately - there is free green-waste drop-off locally.
Whether the extra handling pays depends on volume, and we will tell you honestly which situation you are in rather than pushing the more profitable answer. On a large project it usually does.
